The Casting Process of Bronze Statues by Kay Paton

Kay Paton’s Casting Process of Bronze Statues

The bronzes status are cast using the Lost Wax method of casting and are genuine metal.

The Lost Wax method is different to Industrial casting in that each statue piece, which has to be in wax first, is cast in its individual mold.  The mold is put in a furnace to melt out the wax and condition the mold material to withstand the high temperature of the molten metal. After the bronze has been poured into the mold, it is finally smashed off to retrieve the sculpture.

Therefore each mold is never used again. Another wax is made from the master mold of the original art work and requires finishing work which gives it individuality in a limited edition. Bronzes in a limited edition are therefore similar rather than identical.

There are over thirty different procedures from start to finish in making a true bronze statue and because of this and the time involved, these bronzes are not readily available and are of higher cost.

Kay Paton Bronzes come in varying editions and are signed, numbered and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
